Submit to Borat

On the heels of the runaway success of Borat, Sacha Baron Cohen has signed on to the Tim Burton-directed Sweeney Todd--as Pirelli.

Not since Phantom of the Opera came to the big screen has there been such great news.

Can we get over SBC already? Please? Or do we all have to pretend that he's the greatest comic genius in the history of the world for another couple of years before his schtick gets old? Because eventually, he's going to come back to earth and settle somewhere in the firmament between Chevy Chase and Robin Williams.

  1. The Austrian tourist board is already freaking - they're scared he'll shoot here as gay Neonazi "Boris" next... Theree have already been media and governmental inquiries into the economic effects as compared to Kazakhstan! No joke.

His schtick is already old! I've seen so much of it on the web, I see no point in shelling out any $$$ to watch this flick: besides, if you've seen a 2 minute clip, you've watched the whole movie.

And that's why Flava Last put the beatdown on him:

I am surprised that the Sun didn't quote him shouting, "This is how we do it in the N.J., bitch!"

And, yep, the whole comedy-of-cruelty thing is definitely played out, although I suspect as long as there are Britons, it will persist, since it's rather woven into the British social structure. It's the flip side of the comedy of embarassment which has made, among others, Hugh Grant a multi millionaire...

Amen. The second the cringe comedy era ends (Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, I'm looking at you), I'll start seeing comedies again.
