Dustin Rowles has some unkind words about the news that the third installment of the Mummy series has been given the go-ahead. But let's give a little shout-out to the Mummy: Yes, the movies aren't much, but the Universal Studios' roller-coaster, Revenge of the Mummy, may be the best theme-park ride ever made.
Plus, the Mummy franchise brought Rachel Weisz to the wider world. And if she isn't in your top five, something's wrong with you.

Crappy-sounding direction. Have Stephen Sommers or Bob Ducsay call me, and I'll send 'em my treatment for a really excellent sequel. Maybe they'll want to do it themselves then.
And I frickin' loved the first one. It's not much for the brain, but it may be the Platonic Idea of a popcorn movie.
Also, most, though not all, of the Egyptian dialogue in the original is actual Middle Egyptian, or the version of it that Egyptologists speak when they're guessing how it actually sounded. For that alone, I love them forever.
Also, if I ever meet Sommers, I need to ask him a serious question about his screenplay. Because The Mummy isn't really a mummy movie. And that be why it works so well...
I could go on. Obviously. But I'll spare you. Seriously, though, that's one damn good piece of entertainment.
"The Hamunptra?!"
That's just meta-funny.
