The Philadelphia Phillies, World Series Champs

No words, really, for what happened last night. The metaphysical foundations of my universe have been called into question. Salvation? Original sin? Divine grace? Who knows what any of these things mean now.

But if you'll allow a personal indulgence, last night fulfilled something for me which I never, ever, thought would come to pass: I got to watch the Phillies win a World Series with my son.

Here's what he looked like the morning after the "rain suspension," when the full weight of his birthright bore down on him:

And here he is late last night, basking in the championship:

In the years to come, he will not, perhaps, remember the great run of '08 as clearly as he might wish. But I'll remember it well enough for the both of us.

Congrats! I look forward to the day that my son and I will be able to celebrate a Tigers world series win together...

And it's about how I felt with J in 2004 when the BoSox won.

JVL,
Congrats on the victory. World Series victories are sweet, but until I have a son, I won't truly understand the joy of watching him enjoy that victory. A feeling many of my compatriots in Red Sox Fandom enjoyed in 2004 when they watched the Sox and their sons (and daughters) celebrate.

Why can't youse? Well youse could just fine.

Oh come on, John. Ha ha. I didn't bother going to the papers or watching the game and I will never have to- the Phillies can't win and everyone knows it. Just because some of your readers don't hit front page sports doesn't mean we don't have basic understanding of the universe- no such thing as a Philly win and we all know it. Funny trying to pull that one.

Congrats, JVL. My brother and I were at Madison Square Garden on June 14, 1994 when the Rangers won the Stanley Cup. Greatest thrill of my life. After we finished crying, we turned to each other and in unison said, "Let's call daddy".

So it's official, right? The lad has more hair than dad?
