Oscar and the HSX

Who's going to win big at the Academy Awards? The HSX knows.

The HSX (Hollywood Stock Exchange) is a market which trades in movies. Every year around Oscar time they put out options on the nominees; the market has been exceedingly good at predicting winners.

This year, the HSX predicts:

* Best picture: Million Dollar Baby

*Best director: Clint Eastwood

*Best actor: Jamie Foxx

*Best actress: Hillary Swank

*Best supporint actor: Morgan Freeman

*Best supporting actress: Cate Blanchett

*Best original screenplay: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

*Best adapted screenplay: Sideways

If you're in an Oscar pool, I wouldn't bet against these picks.

Come on, JVL, Scorsese's gonna get director to redeem the academy for passing over the 3 or 4 other times he should have won. Clint's already got his is the collective bottom line. Then again, the anti-Medved surge may swing it for Eastwood. That, and DiCaprio has as much gravitas as the dubble bubble gum that loses its flavor after 3 minutes of chewing.

That Giamatti was not nominated is criminal.

Oscar lost all meaning when Shakespeare in love won BP over Private Ryan. Sort of like when Ty Detmer won the Heisman over Rocket Ismail in 89.
0 credibility from that point forward.
