A funny, but ultimately flawed, list. Sure, Ellen Cleghorne--we can all agree on that. But Jimmy Fallon? Don't his guitar-wielding Weekend Update spots and his Red Sox "No, you ah!" sketches redeem him? I say yes.
A harder list to put together would be the 10 best cast members. And by hard, I mean that you'd have to make your peace with including Chevy ("Medium Talent") Chase. Because whether you want to admit it to yourself or not, he's on that list. Also--and this may be cheating--I'd include Robert Smigel, even though he's not technically a cast member. And Hartman, obvs.
After that, the trouble is just holding it to 10. I now leave this for discussion.

omg. so weak. you guys have lost it. recycled snl lists? good lord. hang it up.
I say no. About Jimmy Fallon, not the previous comment.
Fallon is on the 10-worst list, he cannot appear in a Horatio Sanz skit without cracking up.
top-10:
Murray
Chase
Murphy
Sandler
Ferrell
Miller
Belushi
Rock
Alec Baldwin (as a host)
Christopher Walken (as a host)
Good top ten list but I'd nix Ferrell for Gilda Radner. Not just a sympathy vote - think of how many memorable characters she invented. One of the best.
I see you've redacted the embarrassing little post explaining your "new look." Good idea. You guys link to really funny entertainment sites, but you're not that funny. Don't try it. Leave comedy to the comedians.
Dan Akryod was the funniest person on SNL. Unfortunately, Dan turned seriously unfunny after that and now he is a parody of himself. E. Buzz Miller was the funniest thing on television.
Chris Rock may be great as a stand-up, but on SNL he was a bust. I'm not saying that was his fault, but top-10 of all time?
Bizarro Jack:
Come on Bill Murray singing the theme to Star Wars as the lounge lizard singer, Nick Winters. That was funny stuff.
Best right here:
Fallon
Fey
Ferrell
Farley
Spade
Rock
Chase
Aykroyd
Radner
Host:
Martin
Hanks
Walken
Baldwin
Fallon may of had his laugh break outs but most of the time it was funny.

Some of the following have made a great movie career.
Ferrell: Elf, great outlook on Talledega Nights.
Fallon : Fever Pitch (did not have a laugh break out.)
Fey: Mean Girls
Chase: National Lampoon Vacations.
Aykroyd: Spies Like us
Murray: Stripes, What About Bob
Signed Quiet
On a lot of "PROFESSIONAL" Review sites like www.IMDb.com consider Fallon the best since Ferrell and Hartman. In sketches with Ferrell were both of their best sketches.
Now Sandler was ok, he did not have a great SNL career like Ferrell did. Sandler was strong during his weekend update segments. Some Are:
Opera Vampire
Chanakuh song
Thanksgiving of '91
Jimmy Fallon does not belong on a top ten list, neither does Adam Sandler -- Sandler had some good moments, but not top ten worthy.
Dana Carvey did way more memorable stuff as a cast member than either of those two even if he has sucked @ss since. Best sketch with Bill Murray, in my opinion, was the Hercules one where he strains his back trying to lift a boulder. Hartman was top notch. Alec Baldwin has always been a great host, forgiving his unfunny, scary anti-republican rant monologue that one time. I think current castmember Chris Parnell is underrated. Darrell Hammond is solid, and Samburg is a clear up-and-comer. Heard rumors that Horatio Sanz is leaving this year, a shame, he has that Farley-esque funny fat guy charm going on.
I'm an old schooler.
Murray as Nick 'Lounge Lizard' Singer was INCREDIBLE. And he had great chemistry with Gilda Radner in the 'Todd and Lisa(Loopner)' skits, noogies and all.
I don't think Aykroyd has been funny in a few decades, but he was riotously hilarious as that Mainway guy on 'Consumer Probe' w/Jane Curtin; as E. Buzz Miller with Laraine Newman; and as - my sentimental favorite-Leonard Pinth-Garnell of 'Bad Theatre' fame.
'Astonishingly ill-advised.'
'That wasn't so good now, was it?'
Oops..I meant Nick 'Lounge Lizard Singer' Winters !
'Star Wars....if they should BAR wars....I hope they...stay....'
I can't believe anyone would think Ellen Cleghorn was one of the worst. She was one of the best if you ask me.
But Will Ferrell... now he's got to be #1 for all-time worst character. I was so happy when he FINALLY left.
Worst:
1. Amy Poehler
2. Ellen Cleghorne
3. Sarah Silverman (great stand-up, horrible cast member).
4. Chase
5. Horatio Sanz.
6. Tina Fey. Limited. Horrible actor.
7. Jan Brady women.
8. Maya Rudolph just for those stupid Donatella versace skit and Scott Joplin (timely, huh?)
9. Buck Henry is a great writer but a crappy performer.
10. Amy Poehler is so bad she should gets on twice.
Wow! Do you people know how awesome-ly lame you all are. By mentioning the "worst" you make them immortal. Oh, sorry, that's your plan right?
in no particular order:
1. Gilda Radner
2. Dan Aykroyd
3. Tina Fey
4. Bill Murray
5. Phil Hartman
6. John Belushi
7. Kristin Wiig
8. Chris Farley
9. Will Ferrell
10. The rest of the first season cast, because they were all equally good and most of them better than the entire cast this season...put together.
The list is, of course, totally subjective; but I DO tire of everyone giving the players from seasons 1 and 2 all of the kudos. I think Amy Poehler is better than most from those first two seasons. Gilda Radner may have been funnier, but she didn't have the same breadth. Belushi was a one-trick pony.
Favorites (no order):
Phil Hartman
Gilda Radner
Will Ferrell
Chris Farley
Amy Poehler
Jane Curtin
Kristin Wiig
Bill Hader
Dan Akroyd
Fred Armisen
