You forget your James Bond movie history. The original Casino Royal film was not produced by Danjaq as a serious James Bond film. It was actually made by a competing studio as a parody of the Bond films in an attempt to kill the Bond franchise. Due to some odd occurance Danjaq did not have rights to Casino Royal and Never Say Never Again. However, those rights were consolidated when Sony purchased MGM.From what I've seen of the Casino Royal trailers it looks somewhat faithful to the book (only now its a poker tournament instead of bacarat)
and in Montenegro instead of Monte Carlo, and Le Chiffre is a terrorist financier, not a French communist, etc. ... but it does look like a fairly faithful - updated - adaptation of the original Flemming novel.
I've found the whole Bond franchise monumentally boring since somewhere around For Your Eyes Only. Casino Royale has me excited, though: It looks like they decided to take James Bond and throw him into something resembling a quality spy movie. This preview feels more like Greg Rucka's excellent MI6 comic series, Queen and Country, than it does any recent Bond flick. I get the feeling that I could actually care about the new Bond as a character in addition to rooting for him as a generic good guy.
