Captain America, R.I.P.

For whatever it's worth, this is the most fun I've ever had as a writer.

I just sent this to my friends and family (and the WSJ):

"I know I’m late sending all of this info, but I really expected this to be all over the press.

I don’t know why, but this seems to be affecting me more than the whole Superman thing. Maybe I’m just more of a Marvel man than a DC man. Maybe it’s because it’s Captain "America(bold, ital, underlined.)"

I think it has more to do with the fact that Captain America has always been more of an “Everyman” than Superman. Marvel is also trying to be political, and I think that bugs me a bit, ‘cause I don’t really agree with their “pacifist (iatl, bold)” (emphasis all mine) attitude.

Part of what made Marvel Comics “ring” with me as teenager, was that they were more “Conservative” than DC comics (think Ronald Reagan’s take out the bad guys attitude—I know I’m dating myself here.) Taking into account that the definitions of “Conservative” and “Liberal” have changed, I would say that Marvel is more concerned with the political correct “issue” of where mutants belong in today’s society than the whole point of a Suprehero’s destiny to help protect those who are unable to protect themselves. (Compare against NBC's "Heroes" - check this against recent marketing and major release movies, and I think you will find Marvel contradicting themselves.(At least in the Dallas area.))

Granted, that’s always been Marvel’s point of view, but suddenly (not really) they’re “Liberal,” not “Conservative” (or is it that they’re conservative, not liberal.)

Wolverine is Marvel’s best known Hero for a reason—he knows the difference between right and wrong. There’s no “nuance” involved. I think that says a lot about the political electorate today. Are you with Wolverine or against him?

I say, “Let’s Roll!”

P.S,-Modano just scored his 500th goal against the Flyers (9:40 pm CDT.)

Say what you will about the Cowboys, but give Mike his dues.

Two more to become the best ever American goal scorer.

Rag on the "boys" ("girls?") all you want, but let's compare the
Stars v. the Flyers or the
Mavericks v. the 76'ers.

Im browsing blogs looking for more clues of what will happen. I think Stephen Colber killed him or Punisher!
