Larry Miller has a beautiful and moving piece about a boy who's becoming a Marine.

Highly recommended. When I read it last night, I was more than a little touched.

Larry used to write a weekly column on the Standard web site and I never missed them. He has such a great way with words.
Thanks for highlighting this one.

As funny as he is, he is as equally talented as a writer. I miss his column!

Our son voluntered for duty in Iraq. He is proud of the work he and his buds are doing there, as are we. Those who live in Iraq are grateful for their service.

The author of "Next Thanksgiving" has given--all who read it, and wait for word, or return of heros--a gift.

So, To comrade derangedlefty: Please convey our deepest sympathy to your family. They must be ashamed to admit you are their whimpering, pathetic, and slime- dwelling ignorant child. The next time you come out from under your rock, thank a soldier for the freedom you have to speak such hatred without being sent to the gulag of your choice.
