Finally, a Sports Moment
I'm not soccer expert, but that French fellow Zidane was the only guy I saw during the last month at the World Cup who carried himself like the American ideal of a warrior-athlete. The head-butt was really the highpoint of the World Cup. I never thought there would be any set of circumstances that would lead me to pull for the French.
Update: So very, very hot. The BBC is reporting that the Italian guy who crumpled like a rag doll may have said something about Zidane's mother to provoke him. More to follow, I'm sure.

hi, i enjoyed reading your posts (seriously) - i think the whole world was shocked by the infamous head-butt , and can u imagine how many people all over the globe shouted screamed and gasped at thet moment?! anyway i understand that at this point self promotion is bad and may seem superficial, but nevertheless i couldn't resist the temptation of inviting you to my blog to check out one thingie. i'd appreciate it if you came around and said what you think. thanks in advance :-)
Spoken like a true Philadelphia fan.
Anyway, wasn't the infamy of Italy's conduct against the United States in the first round enough to make you pull for France in the final? In the whole tournament, only Portugal behaved worse, as a team, than Italy.
The one upside of the Italian victory: The United States played Italy in the first round, and we only had 9 men to Italy's 10 thanks to painfully biased officiating, and the so-called world champions couldn't beat us.
"Zidane was the only guy I saw during the last month at the World Cup who carried himself like the American ideal of a warrior-athlete. "
I cannot tell with you anymore, but is this sarcasm or do you really think that this was the highpoint?
Bravo Zidane. A bit more hockey in soccer and I'm a fan. Hopefully this will catch-on as I've always wanted to become a soccer fan, it's the decent worldly thing to do I especially think on days when the angst of being a red-state American has almost swallowed my soul whole. Is it likely that by the time of the next World Cup, what is that fifteen, sixteen years from now?, the players will be wearing shoulder pads, helmets, and carrying sticks for clearing a proper path to the goal? Can't wait.
