Behind the Scenes with Matthew Lesko
You know Matthew Lesko, the guy with all the question marks yelling about free money from the government. Dave Jamieson has a fantastic profile of him in the Washington City Paper this week.

The story is well-written but it leans towards treating Lesko as a harmless eccentric when he's actually a particularly nasty sort of con man.
Like Lesko, I spent a few years at a previous job plowing through the federal register searching for grant programs.
Yeah, the amount of money the federal government simply pisses away (to no discernable effect) on pointless boondoggles is stunning, but Lesko's claim that anybody can simply get these grants is incredibly misleading -- as he well knows.
Lesko specializes in fleecing people who don't have much money to begin with by playing on their belief that the government will provide everything for them. That's destructive on several levels.
