Play Ball?

Duncan Currie has an excellent piece on Cuba's participation in the World Baseball Classic.

One of the few in the press who came out IN FAVOR of the boycott was Miami Herald and ESPN the Magazine columnist Dan Le Batard, who's of Cuban descent. You can read his piece here:

Over the weekend, I caught an older (2001 or 2002) PBS documentary called "Gift of the Game." It was about some middle-aged Florida writer who got together with several former Major Leaguers (most notably Bill "Spaceman" Lee & Jon Warden) and went to Cuba to search for the Ernest Hemingway-coached little league team of kids known as the Gigi Stars. Initially, I thought it was going to be a Castro apologist PBS thing but it really wasn't. It gave a glimpse of the totalitarian nature of the Castro officials. It was interesting.
