How to Fix CBS News

Jack Shafer has the smartest idea you're likely to read about how CBS can save its news division.

(And bonus points to Shafer for being one of the few people to understand the importance of NFL football on all network ratings. It's not a coincidence that (1) Fox became a real network with the addition of football; (2) CBS suffered an across-the-board shipwreck when it lost football; (3) CBS's current entertainment division rennaissance is due in large part to its bringing football back--which allowed it to successfully launch the franchises Survivor and C.S.I.; and (4) the decline of NBC's Must-See empire began when they lost the NFL.)
