"He was detained locally at the division detention facility" but was released two weeks later because there was no "compelling evidence to continue to hold him" as a "threat to the security of Iraq," the military said.
Hmmm. Maybe requiring our military to meet the full burden of U.S. law when it comes to detaining terrorists isn't the best idea.
Sfah Mohammed Ali may be the terrorist Willie Horton, but it's not like this is the first time this has happened. From the October 22, 2004 Washington Post:
At least 10 detainees released from the Guantanamo Bay prison after U.S. officials concluded they posed little threat have been recaptured or killed fighting U.S. or coalition forces in Pakistan and Afghanistan, according to Pentagon officials.
One of the repatriated prisoners is still at large after taking leadership of a militant faction in Pakistan and aligning himself with al Qaeda, Pakistani officials said. In telephone calls to Pakistani reporters, he has bragged that he tricked his U.S. interrogators into believing he was someone else.
Another returned captive is an Afghan teenager who had spent two years at a special compound for young detainees at the military prison in Cuba, where he learned English, played sports and watched videos, informed sources said. U.S. officials believed they had persuaded him to abandon his life with the Taliban, but recently the young man, now 18, was recaptured with other Taliban fighters near Kandahar, Afghanistan, according to the sources, who asked for anonymity because they were discussing sensitive military information.
Shouldn't something be done about this?
You know, I still can't figure it out. I got here through Bull Moose Blog, where he links to TPM, Sullivan, Donkey rising and you.
How in the hell did you get into that group?
You pull out a few nice links in a month, but everything else seems like the rantings of a 16 year old Alex P. Keaton without the GPA.
I guess putting underwear on their heads doesn't dissuade them
It's not like we don't have repeat-offenders here in the US.
"Sfah Mohammed Ali?"
Tell me he's not related to the boxer!
Why is it when a terrorist kills people, or is aprehended before the fact, there is always a liberal there to advocate for him? Or as John Derbyshire said: "Wherever there is a jackboot stepping on a human face, there will be a well-heeled Western liberal there to assure us that the face enjoys free health care and a high degree of literacy."
Liberals are all scum and should be shot.
Congratulations, improbulus, now everyone knows your're an idiot with poor impulse control, a fear of identifying your ideas as your own, and nothing interesting to say.
But I'm totally with you on the issue of literacy - it's totally overrated.
BTW, who would be defending the ex-prisoner here? Our troops and people running our detention centers have difficult decisions to make; They don't like imprisoning innocent people, and they're not animals like you who would "kill em all" or something. Are you saying you would never release a prisoner, once accused?
p.s. I take back what I said about not identifying yourself, assuming this looney blogger is also you.
JVL - sorry to hijack your post
I.M. - having googled you and seen a mere cross-section of your massive c.v. of looney blog comments, I take back the part about not being interesting and will just stay with "you are insane."
Maybe just to be sure that no more detainees get out and commit terrorist acts we should just detain all arab men and never let them out.
I know that gets expensive, so maybe we could put them to work. And the weak ones we could euthanize real peaceful like with gas, then boil down their body fat to make soap to sell.
Wait a minute, thats been done before. Nevermind.
Maybe we should just stick with our own values that have served us so well for 225+ years and accept that some mistakes will happen, and some people who hate us will do bad things sometimes.
That's right KwAwk. We're just like the Nazis. You are capable of some amazing analysis. Keep it up.
