Congratulations to Sayako and Yoshiki Kuroda of Tokyo, Japan, who were married in a quiet ceremony earlier today. Formerly Princess Nori, Sayako was required under Imperial House Law to renounce her title and leave the imperial family (and palace) for wedding a commoner.

Supposedly, Sayako can walk away with $3 million. Or, if she is crazy enough, spend $30 million in 30 days without owning anything new and win $300 million!

Nice! A Brewster's Millions reference!

I love watching Brewster's Millions today and think of how incredibly easy it would be to spend 30 million in 30 days in today's society without anything to show for it. Me, I'd rent a Manhattan Penthouse for a few million for a month and then order up 3-5 $10K an hour hookers for a month-long, non-stop, 720 hour orgy. I cannot think of a better way to blow $30mil

Great line in the link:
The princess has said, "I feel anxious [about my new life], but I hope I will gradually become accustomed to it, by experiencing confusion, unsureness and frustration."

The couple will be spending their first few months living in a 50sq.meter one bedroom apartment with rented furniture. (They are movin' on up in the Spring to a 100sq.meter at about a million dollars.) The former princess now known as Mrs. Kuroda will be making her husband a boxed lunch everyday and doing the chores around the house; And as part of the democractic revolution overtaking the world, as a commoner she'll even get the chance to vote.
