A Germany Divided

Paul Belien has a long, interesting post about the coming German election. Belien believes that we could be heading for a German crack-up--and that that's a good thing. I'll be interested to hear Vic's thoughts on the situation when he returns from Vienna.

Well, as a fellow Germanophile and -phone, I will attempt to anticipate Vic's reaction:

However desirable some of the effects of a German schism might be (and overlooking some bad ones, like creating Angry Prussia Mark II), it still ain't happening. However much they like socialism, the East Germans wouldn't vote themselves into penury, and the West Germans aren't going to unilaterally break up the country, much as they might like to, some days.

Interesting post, though.
